Why It's Good For You

Dr. Swezey constructed the BedLounge back support pillows in much the same way a fine mattress is built – with an inner framework, supportive foam foundation layers, and soft, pillowy fiber and feather & down.

He combined these elements in the Bedlounge Back Wedge Pillow to work simultaneously together with your body’s shape and reclining positions providing better posture for your neck, lower and upper back.

Think about it. Every time your lounging position changes -- your body’s alignment and balance changes as well.

It is a balancing act. Your head balancing over your neck, your neck balancing over your shoulders to your arms to your back – they’re all are connected to each other but they move and they function independently of each other -- especially when you’re lounging and reclining.

The doctor’s patented design can bend, move, flex, and pivot to custom-fit itself to your body’s shape -- it can equalize and distribute your body’s weight. The result is near-perfect lounging comfort.

Stress, Tension and Sleep

Our backs, and particularly, our necks, and our shoulders -- are the areas most susceptible to stress, tension, aches, pains, and strains.

Doctors who study sleep tell us that if you go to bed with a strain or pain in your back, neck, or shoulder you’re not likely to sleep soundly. The BedLounge’s internal Active Frame(tm) fits you. It adjusts to your position for the most comfortable, consistent, luxurious lounging you can find.

  Head How BedLounge Helps

Your head weighs about 12 pounds. That’s equivalent to a bowling ball! When you’re sitting without your head supported, these 12 pounds of weight drag and strain on your neck, shoulders, and back. Your muscles must continually work to balance your head properly. When out of balance your head, like a lever, multiplies the strain on your upper body. The ripple effect can pull your body out alignment – impacting, in some way, everything from posture to breathing to digestion.

The BedLounge Headrest extends over a foot in height. It adjusts itself to you. Resting just inside the Headrest is a feather/down insert. Surrounding the feather/down insert are multiple layers of buttery foam, fiber and an internal framework. Your head is gently cradled and counter-balanced relieving strain on your neck and upper body.
  Neck How BedLounge Helps
Improperly cradled, the back of your neck is vulnerable to excessive pressure and strain. Add to this any built-up stress and it is clear why the number of people who suffer neck pain -- as a daily part of their lives -- nearly equals those with back problems The BedLounge headrest not only extends – it rotates. This rotating feature gives your neck continuous cradling support. It adjusts – and tracks with your neck – as you watch TV looking straight ahead, or downward as your read.
  Shoulders How BedLounge Helps
Tension and stress very often concentrates and focuses in the shoulders – especially if they are unsupported. Putting in hours of unsupported lounging continuously exerts strain on your shoulders. This can directly impact your body’s natural alignment and posture. Slouching, slumping posture affects breathing making it more shallow and reducing lung capacity. It can contribute to indigestion by placing pressure on your abdomen and intestines.

The BedLounge is designed with an ErgoCurve™ arc along the upper portion of the armrests. The ErgoCurve™ is a gentle curve of a specific geometry. It maintains consistent support to your shoulders and upper arms in any lounging position from upright to reclining.

The BedLounge actively moves, flexes and supportively shapes itself to you. Its soft fiber layers with underlying foam composite distributes your weight gently away from your shoulders -- helping to eliminate pressure points, and allowing your body to totally relax in giving you cloud-like lounging comfort.

  Arms How BedLounge Helps
With most bed rests and wedges, the arms are an after-thought. The few that have arms are stubby and inadequate, providing little if any support. As a result, pressure points build at the elbows and wrists.

For real support you need full-length armrests that are properly cushioned and supportive for thorough, even weight distribution. This is what gives you the sensation of “weight-less” lounging in the BedLounge.

Plus, the BedLounge’s armrests have internal hinges that pivot to give you the snug, body-hugging custom-fit. The arms flex upward and downward, thanks to the active internal framework which the BedLounge is built on. As you recline the arms maintain their stress-free support of your body. This is only one of so many features that elevates the BedLounge to a world-class lounger.

  Upper Back How BedLounge Helps
In and around the shoulder blades, your upper back is vulnerable to deep tissue stress. Over-reaching and twisting to try and support the area often only aggravates the problem.

Unlike pillows that merely take on an impression of you, the BedLounge has an inner framework that anatomically supports you correctly because as it takes the shape that best supports your body – and adjusts to you as you change positions. Your upper back rests against the BedLounge’s fleecy spun fiber and resilient high-grade foam.

Your upper back is further served by the BedLounge’s advanced-design Lumbar Pillow. You can access the Lumbar Pillow anytime while you are lounging. You don’t even need to get up or turn around to adjust it. Just glide it up to the area that you wish to support. The BedLounge’s Lumbar Pillow is carefully selected combination of feather & down (available also in hypoallergenic synthetic down), double-sealed in downproof comforter ticking. It is positionable for exact support – right where it feels best. It is pliant, contouring to your body’s ins and outs. This ability of the Lumbar Pillow is what allows it to reduce the hard spots and hot spots. Once you have experienced lounging with the BedLounge you will have a hard time ever going back to mere pillows.

  Lower Back How BedLounge Helps
Your back requires support when sitting or lounging, especially in bed, on the floor or couch. Slouching pushes the discs towards the spinal column – straining ligaments, discs, and muscles that support your back and upper body. As your back is bent out of its natural “S” curve your posture becomes strained and hunched. Slouching posture affects not only your breathing by reducing lung capacity, but also your ability to properly digest by un-naturally compressing your stomach and intestines.

Built into the seatback of the BedLounge® is a Lumbar Pillow of advanced design – it is positionable and form-able. A good way to think of the BedLounge’s Lumbar Pillow is as a “posture pillow”. You can place the Lumbar Pillow anywhere on your back, exactly where it feels best – and does the most good. The Lumbar Pillow is pliable. Not only can it be positioned for optimal low back support, it can be molded to fit and maintain the natural inward, supportive arch of your back – the “S” curve that connotes good posture when sitting or lounging.
